Gaspé, November 01, 2020 – Responding to a call for projects launched in the spring by the Cornélius-Brotherton Foundation, members of the staff of the Cégep de la Gaspésie et des Îles innovated through the quality, variety and dynamism of the projects proposed. In view of the pandemic, trips and internships abroad were not authorized for CEGEP students and staff. Despite everything, ten projects were thus submitted under the 3 components of the financial support program:

• innovation in study programs;
• improvement of student life on campus;
• student mobility in the province.

The areas of intervention of the proposals submitted to the analysis committee were diversified. These initiatives targeted objectives as varied as the outdoors, aquarism, student anxiety, forestry, experimentation with vegetable crops, badminton and inter-campus or provincial exchanges. Following the recommendations from the analysis committee, the Foundation decided to contribute financially to the realization of the ten projects submitted for a total amount of $ 16,785. Here is a table of the selected projects:

Fondation Cornélius-Brotherton is very pleased to promote realizations improving student’s life at the Cégep de la Gaspésie et des Îles. Upgrading educational, sporting and cultural activities is a notable addition to the actual range of possibilities. For a thirteenth consecutive year, such a financial aid is granted to a wide variety of projects.
Beeing part of our financial support program, 217 projects from the four campuses have, since 2008, received $452 297.

Gaspé October 28, 2020. – The Cégep de la Gaspésie et des Îles Foundation carries on its mission by attributing its entrance bursaries for a thirteenth consecutive year. In all $ 6 500 – 13 scholarships – were awarded to secondary school graduates newly admitted to their first year at one of the four Cégep de la Gaspésie et des Îles campuses.

Fate smiled on 11 students from throughout the territory whose names were drawn as recipients of a $500 welcome scholarship. Even if the fund attribution program provides one bursary for each high school or adult education centre from its territory, some schools or centers are not present on the recipients list due to a lack of applicants.

One $500 french immersion scholarship was attributed to Kassandra Cormier-Duguay. Ariane Cloutier, a student at Gaspé Campus, received a $500 leadership scholarship for her remarkable involvement in her community.

Entrance schoaship program – Welcome: These scholarships are exclusively for graduates from each of the secondary schools or Adult Education Centre located in the Gaspésie-Îles-de-la-Madeleine administrative region or from ESSB territory who choose to enrol in a training program at one of the four campuses of the Cégep de la Gaspésie et des Îles. One bursary is awarded following a random draw for eligible students in each of the polyvalent or Adult Ed. Centre. These $500 bursaries encourage young people to remain in the region.

Entrance schoaship program – Immersion: These scholarship are for students who undertake their college studies in total or partial immersion at the Cégep de la Gaspésie et des Îles. It is valued as an incentive for students to become proficient in a second language. This year no candidate was eligible for the English immersion scholarship

Entrance schoaship program – Leadership: This scholarship is not awarded by means of a draw but selected by a special committee. It rewards a student for his or her exceptional involvement in extracurricular or community activities..- Registration required and form to be completed.

One $500 french immersion bursary was attributed to Devin Delhanty whereas the english immersion bursary was handed out to Meylan Samuel. Charlène Roberge, a student at Gaspé Campus, was rewarded for her leadership with a $500 scholarship for her remarkable involvement in her community.

Gaspé, October 29, Following a call for projects launched in the spring by the Fondation Cornélius-Brotherton, members of the staff have once again innovated in quality, variety and vitality concerning the forwarded projects. Some thirty-threeof them were proposed in three fields of the financial support program:

• Innovation in program of studies
• Student’s life dynamisation in the four campuses
• Student’s mobility, international cooperation and in work training

Submitted propositions were diversified. Without surprise, and taking account of theremoteness of the campuses, agood proportion of requests for financial support aimed to make it easier for students to visit different places, attend a conference or join in work training facilities. Other initiatives were of a variety of targets including: Open air facilities, aquaponics, aquaculture, reforestation and landscaping, experimentation with vegetable gardening and theater. The analysis committee made its recommandationsto the Board and the Fondation recently announced that it will support financially 30 projects.
